The images that inspired me for my poster and game cover was my the street that I live on because it gave a very creative. This was trying to portray an image to do with a man about to run around a corner. The name of the film is chasing cars I think which I think that I portrayed and tried to recreate very well. I was also inspired by a man looking through the blinds that I purposely blurred to give the image a better secret. I think once I took all of my photos I was inspired to recreate the game using my creative skills and great lighting at home with street lamps, the sun and a digital camera. Those were the 3 light sources that helped me to create the images for my poster and game cover that I enjoyed. Even my dad was inspired by Film Noir and the street to help me capture the best possible photo. I was also inspired to recreate a poster/photo by a man and woman sitting in a car with the street behind. I soon changed this by having just the street as the shot with blurring it on purpose for a better secret.
The research that I needed to do to inspire me with my poster was to look at Film Noir posters to see what different peoples styles were. I found a majority of them very interesting, this inspired me to create my own style of a Film Noir poster and game cover for me to create a fantastic game cover and poster using my Film Noir techniques. I also looked at a few game covers in the Film Noir style to get a few ideas for my game cover. I used some of them because I liked the style but I didn't copy any because I made mine independent and unique that I love. Also I looked at a game cover at home to do with a Nintendo giving me the idea to create a game cover. I also researched a but of Film Noir in black and white to see if the research was any difference which it wasn't. It was exactly the same. I used my creative skills to create my own game cover and poster which has turned out very well.
Three characteristics of Film Noir photography lighting would be to keep the photo tinted "black and white" to make it look more like an old film from the past. Maybe it could represent a sad time or bad time that needs to be indicated in a black and white style, to use very little light such as a torch or lamp to focus on the character that you want the camera to focus on, one more characteristic of Film Noir is to use a white backdrop to give you the shadowed effect light and dark effect for Film Noir to focus on some-ones face or body part, to get the bar effect you need to shut the barn doors to create the lighting effect. The ideas that I had for my home shots was to original have my dad walking round the corner in my back garden, out of focus and for him to stand in front of some blinds but this didn't work so I had to adjust and change my ideas abit.
The final ideas that I thought was came from my dad because he suggested that I should take a shot in the street which worked better because it gave the Film Noir effect. Also it looked like a Film Noir set which I agree with. It gave me the perfect shots that I was after. The shots for college was easier to use because I used a proper photography camera that worked out well at college as I could change the different settings such as lighting, apature, programme, and shutter speed. It was easier because the places that I took my college shots was in the right style that I needed and I could use other people at College to model for me. Also the lighting was good, not as good as my home ones because it was lovely and dark at home compared to the light at college. My dad came up with some ideas as well as me to help me out. He came up with the idea of using the street as a shot and sitting looking out of the window with the natural sunlight or moonlight behind his head that I enjoyed. This was a great project. The only that I used was a hat and a coat for my dad to wear that was all. On all 4 shots at least 1 character(person) wore a black hat to make my shot more of a Film Noir shot. I had to take into account for all 4 shots people walking past minusing the inside of the house scene. I had to take into account for this shot cars going pas the window getting in the way of my shot. It took me roughly an hour to get the home shots, maybe shorter. I wanted the best possible shot for these photos.
The way that I used my test shots was to put them into 4 contact sheets to see how I got to my final photo and the process of getting from my test shots to my final/edited photo for my poster/DVD cover. I used my test shots by taking lots of shots of the same item to see which photo was the best one for me to use. Just like if you were making a video or film you have to take forever to take the right/correct shot that you want to create. They influenced my final images because it showed me what the final photos of each photo would look like. I wanted to use all of them in a creative way making my poster a great, clever piece of work.
The editing process that I used to create the final image was photo-shop. I did this by using different tools to make the photo black and white. I did this by going onto adjustments and then black and white to indicate the Film Noir Style. Also I used a tool called the level and exposure tool which allows you to get rid of the horrible parts of the photo that you don't want including the black and white background to make it look more real.
If I was to do the project differently I would change the setting of the camera because it was very blurry that I couldn't see the person who was being my model. Also I would change the camera to a proper photography camera because the one that was going to use didn't work in the end. I would book out a camera from college next time if I was to do it again to help give the photos better quality. The lighting wasn't the best quality because I was distracted by a dog and the rest of my family causing myself to blur the camera. I would use a different time of the day because the sun was in the wrong place at the wrong time because it made it to dark.
In my opinion I think that my photos and poster met the brief because I worked very hard with the work. I used my skills in photo-shop to create a great poster or game cover that I was very happy with. I made the game cover more creative than the dvd cover letting me make a film cover of what I like.
