Today I have made a contact sheet using photo shop to show the difference between my final shots and before I edited them. This contact sheet is great because it shows how I have got from one shot/photo to the final shot/photo. I like this contact sheet because I have captured each shot well that I have wanted to capture/take.
I have also taken 2 lots of photos that I wanted to recreate. Some of my photos are blurred because I don't think that I focused in on the camera making the photos blurred. If I didn't do this I wouldn't have blurred photos I would have good quality photos that you can see clearly without them being blurred because I blurred these photos.
I have taken more than 10 photos of both lots of photos because that way I can see what the best photos are that I want to edit and delete instead of having one very bad or very good quality photo. I liked taking more than one photo because it shows skills on using a camera, to take simple photos. Without taking a bunch of photos I wouldn't know which photos were good and which are bad. It is better to have more good photos instead of bad photos so I have some to work from and use instead of using photos that are blurred and no good to use.

Photography Proposal
Photo 1: For my proposal and assignment I would like to create a cover to do with a game or DVD showing a man or woman being chased from their victim. I would like to show the main characters back story in the same shot, photo. The man or woman will be wearing a hat and olden type clothes such as a black jacket and trousers. Some sort of black and white, grey clothing. For the woman the hair will be up in a style of some-one from Film Noir. The make-up used will be black. I would like to create this film noir cover by having the man or woman about to disappear through the wall or location with a shadow of the arch enemy- completely black near the camera about to follow the man or woman running round the location into safety. This photo present the man about to run/disappear through the wall or street with a shadow in the wall
The location that I would like to shoot/take the photo for my first photo would be a corridor near a door. This is because this location is the most suitable for the photo/cover that I would like to take. It has the door and the corridor for the scenario that I am looking forward to shoot with. I have chosen this location to use for my first photo because it is the location that would suit/fit my photo and ideas very well. It is the perfect shoot. The only problem that I might have with this location is that people might walk past stopping me from taking the photo. I would have to shoot/take the photo in this location when people aren't walking past or when I have the chance to take the photo.
The lighting that I would use for my first photo is a red head light shining on the man or woman showing that they are the most important character for my cover. The lighting of the red head light would be completely over the main character giving the character the most attention/action. I would use a lamp or torch for the other characters or shadows to create the atmosphere and the shadows that is used in Film Noir. The lamp and torch would be focused on the other characters creating the shadows and a small bit of lighting for another character just on the head or body showing that this the shadow and not as important as the main character that will be in complete light.
The camera settings that I would use for my first photo is a wide/big apature for the main character because that is the character that I would like to keep in focus. This is the character that would be in the most lighting showing that this is the character with a secret or mystery or mission to hide giving the film noir feeling. The other characters would be in complete darkness showing that they aren't as important characters or background as the main character- the film noir character.
I would like to recreate the photo with the man running through the wall or street because it is my favourite photo that I found from my research. I also like the fact that I have thought about this photo. It is the only photo that I found that is very creative and it uses imagination
Another problem that I would have with this photo to recreate would be the fact that this photo is dark and taken at night time but it doesn't get dark during the daytime. I think that this is one of the photos that I do at home as I can take it in the dark in my garden or house. I would use my dad or brother as the man running round the wall as that would be a better photo to do at home for lighting and weather issues and problems.
For my second image I would like to recreate this photo with the man or woman walking through the tunnel. I would use a man at the end of the tunnel as if he is walking through the tunnel.
The location that I would use for this photo is a location that looks like a tunnel like an archway or an inside location of the stairs or an inside corridor that could represent the tunnel, the location that would be useful for this photo is a tunnel in Market Square somewhere because it is the perfect location. I would have a man acting out the man walking through the tunnel. The man will be in the distance showing that he is exiting the tunnel into the world. It looks as though he is going through the tunnel, getting closer to the camera. This could show the man's identity. The dark lighting would be the hardest because it is completely dark with a bit of light.
The lighting that I would use in this photo would be a low apature for the dark lighting. I would also use a 1600 ISO or a number 800 to show the darkness of the photo. I would use a torch or lamp for the lighting on the man and the tunnel. I might use a redhead light for this to show the beamed light and the lighting is bright which is what I need to create a good quality photo. I would use a torch for the odd lighting beyond the tunnel as in as the man walks through the tunnel bouncing off the walls. This would add the atmosphere and it would create a great photo. I would have the shutter speed on low because I would want/like to have this photo dark with a blurred tone for the man. The blurred part of the photo would be the man walking through the tunnel showing that there is something that he is hiding something. It shows the mystery/mission behind the character.
The only problem that I would have with this shot/photo would be getting the lighting right and dark because of the way the man walks through the tunnel into the light. I would find this difficult because I would have to put the lighting in the right place for the shot to work.
This is the photo that I would do at college-outside college because I can get the tunnel shot outside college but I wouldn't necessarily get the scenario inside college. This is one of the photos that I would do at college out of the two that need to do at college, with two at home.
I would like this fourth photo because it looks very Film Noir. I would recreate this by having my dad in the window looking out. I would have the camera so you can see the model looking out the window.

For my third photo I would like to recreate is this photo. This is because it looks like a good photo to recreate. The lighting will be light with people walking past the street so it looks like a film noir set. I will add the dark lighting to make it black and white including making it tinted.
I like this photo because it shows a street in the background with two people as the main characters in the foreground of the street/photo.
The only problem that I will have with doing this is the fact that people would be walking past stopping me from doing the shot. The lighting wouldn't be hundred per cent great or dark enough either for me to recreate this photo.
I would like this fourth photo because it looks very Film Noir. I would recreate this by having my dad in the window looking out. I would have the camera so you can see the model looking out the window.
The lighting will be dark with the sunlight acting as the light source. I would do this by getting my dad to be in the middle of the sun so the sun beams down on him.
The camera will be looking at my dad with the sun in the background. It wouldn't be a blurry photo.
The problem that I will have with this photo is creating some blinds, also it would hard to create the light beaming down on the man or my dad because of the sun is always moving. I would make sure that the photo isn't blurry to get the best possibly photo.
Film Noir Dvd/Game covers
•
What
camera settings/considerations may have been used? Think about ISO, apature and
shutter speed.
• What message could the photograph be trying to convey?
What
problems would you face if trying to recreate the photograph
2. http://boldly-nerd.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/la-noire-cover.jpg
The props that is used in this game/DVD cover is a weapon of a gun showing that the main character isn't a good character. He looks more of a murderer then a good guy. The location that the cover was taken from would have probably been a green screen because I cant see an obvious background, I cant even see a simple background. I think it was done by green screen with added special effects to make it more realistic. The type of lighting that has been used through this photo is a lot of bright light. I think that more than once source of light has been used to create this cover. I feel as though the lighting has come from the top of the cover/shining on the character, next to the main character indicating and showing other key characters that are important but not as important as the main character. The camera settings that I think have been used is a high apature showing the brightness of the photo and the shutter speed on high giving the photo the creepy murder, death type game because of the man's face in the middle of the game cover showing that he is the character that the camera or photo has captured the most/backstory of him and his life. I think that in the top right there has been a red light or lamp used because it shows a more horror, death type film or game with the way the red light is beaming down on the 3 characters and the looks like a dead man. The message that the photograph is trying to convey is that a man(who is a detective) ends up murdering or killing his victim or arch enemy and the story starts to go downhill from the murder with the main character-the evil man. If I was to recreate the photograph the problem that I would have with this is finding another prop to use as the gun without using a gun. Also it would be hard to recreate the background because there isn't an obvious background, it would be hard to recreate this image without using a green or blue screen for the effects to work.
3. http://i43.tower.com/images/mm107086990/killers-dvd-cover-art.jpg The props that is used in the cover is not an obvious prop. I don't think that a prop has been used in this cover because you cant see a prop. If a prop is used in this cover you cant see it. The lighting that I think has been used in this cover is a low light. I think a low light has been used to show and focus on the two main characters in the cover. I think that the light is focused on the two characters in the cover showing that they like each other or showing a back story or background to the two characters. I don't think a light source has been used for this cover. If one has been used then I think that it is a lamp that has been used to create this cover showing the two characters but not hiding the secret, keeping the cover secret and old. The camera settings that has been used is a low apature and shutter speed. This is because it creates the black and white atmosphere. It also shows the mystery between the two characters showing that something wrong or big has happened to the two characters. It gives the tension that the two characters are hiding something from each other with the different type of lighting to normal light. The message that I think I think is being conveyed in this photo is the two characters hiding a secret from each other and a mystery between each other. It gives the mystery and the message of how the two characters met and what they are trying to hide from each other and why. The problems that I would face when coming to recreate this photo would be the background because it is plain black. Also there isn't a location in my opinion that I could use to recreate this. Also another problem that I would have if I was to recreate this image would be some of the lighting. This is because of the light, bright lighting on the two characters and the darker shadowed, black lighting beyond the characters that I think I would find hard and tricky putting in the right place so that it would fit the cover/photo.
4. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51t2Ex8JpTL.jpg The props that has been used in this cover is a sort of gun or cigarette. It shows that this man has an enemy that he would like to murder for better yet kill. The lighting that is used in this photo would be a red head light for the main character with a torch or lamp light for the background. This would show that the main character is more important than the background which shows that the background can be blurred with the main character in the light. The camera settings in this photo is a low shutter speed showing the brightness and mystery of the main character, in this case a man. The apature is more of a high setting giving the background the dark light setting showing that the camera is focused on the man with the hat. The message that the photo is trying to convey is about a man who could be lonely with a mission of tracking down his enemy that could have been his enemy since he was young to travel the world to try and kill his enemy. If I was to recreate this photo the problem that I would have is finding another prop for the man to be holding. Also I would find finding the location hard and difficult for the scenario. This is because the man is standing on the street and I am not sure which location in college would be useful for this.
5. http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1316638511l/445882.jpg
The props that is used in the cover is a gun thing that the man is holding. A car is used for the two characters sitting together enjoying themselves. The lighting that is used in this photo would be a torch or lamp marking the two characters in the light in the car with the rest of the scene dark. The camera settings that has been used is a high apature giving the light effect and possibly the blurred effect with the shutter speed low giving the shadowed effects. This would create this cover very well. The message that the photo is trying to convey is about a man and a woman who fall in love. The woman ends up killing the man because of his true identity or because of him cheating on the woman. The problem with recreating this image would be finding the right scene or location for the car scene. I wouldn't be able to use a real car for this so that is the only thing that I would find hard. The street scene would be easy to represent but it is just the car scene that I would find hard. I might also find the part of the street hard because I would need to find a good location for this. The name of the cover "Dark City" shows that something bad has happened through the film, cover or game. The black and white colour shows it is old and antique.

Film Noir research x8
1. The time period that I think that the photo was taken was around the 1930's/40's/ This is because of the black and white colours used and the clothing that the man is wearing shows how old the photo is. The message that the photograph could be trying to convey is a man walking down the street hiding something secret that no-one is allowed to know. It also gives the impression that the message is about some-one following some-one with the shadow effect used. The unique features that make the image different from current day photos is the fact that it is black and white. It highlights/symbolises that something dark is going on in this photo. The lighting shows the deep, dark, horror side of the photo. The only thing that is different form modern day is the fact that it isn't in colour showing a mystery to the scene. If I was to recreate the image I would set up the camera on the street with a male actor acting out the shadowed man with another actor in the distance/background blurred. The props that I would use is the two characters/people wearing black showing the dark side. I would use a tint effect to make the photo blurred and horror like- black and white. The light is coming from the window near the distanced man showing that it could be a window/sun. (http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/45367000/jpg/_45367504_288811-1.jpg)
2.
The time period that I think the photo was taken was around the 1950's maybe the 1960's. This is because of the way the man and woman are looking/staring at each other showing their different side. The clothing indicates how old the shot is aswell as the tinted black and white effect. The message that the photo is trying to convey is a man staring at something, being more interested in something other than the girl. It shows the woman/girl who is more interested in the man but the man isn't bothered because he is concerned. It shows that their might have been a spilt in the photo with the way the two characters are keeping out of each others way on purpose. The unique features and differences in this photo compared to modern day is the fact that it is black and white. It also shows the difference between how women and men were treated to each other compared to now. Now men and women are treated equally but they weren't back then. If I was to recreate this image I would use a corridor in college for the scenario, also the lighting would be dark and dull showing the darkness. The props would be just a glass of water or bottle indicating the man. The costumes that I would use is a suit/tie for the man and a black and white suit for the woman with her hair big and bob like. (http://i42.tinypic.com/t7cpqp.jpg)4. The time period for this photo would be around the 1940s. This is because of the different shots used to create the film. The message that this photo/film could be trying to convey is about a man who is trying to hide the fact that he smokes. Also the photo shows another character trying to hide an identity chasing the old, grumpy sort of man. This is the shot that I would like to recreate because the lighting in the shot is perfect to recreate. I would recreate this photo by having one actor as the man that you can see in the background. They would be wearing all black showing how mysterious the man is. I like this shot because of the lighting and the scenario. This shot shows the scenario of almost another man the same as the man in the distance following him/stalking him as if he is a reflection. For the actor who would be in this shot would be almost out of shot as though they are running around the corner, away from the camera. The shadow effect shows a mystery of the plot/story causing the horror/fear. The shot is quite good with the viewpoint because it indicates where the man is and where he is going. It is as though the man is directly in a street. The location that would be perfect for me to recreate would be a corridor or alleyway. Maybe the windy stairs would be great for this photo. This is because the lighting in those places is the best and more like a film noir. It would capture the shadows and lighting perfectly well. If I was to recreate this then I might use another actor as the shadow in black and very little lighting on the shot, mainly focusing on the man running away from a fear or scare. The editing process would be black and white to make the mystery seem real, I would also make the shadow possibly like a ghost effect showing that something is following the man. This is my favourite scene out of the few from this video because it looks like a great film noir, abit like harry potter.
5. 5. The time period of this photo would be around the 1940s-1960s because of the creepiness used. I also think that it is that old because of the way that the man is standing in front of the fence/bar thing. It is like he is trapped in a nightmare or daydream. The message that I think is being conveyed throughout this photo is the fact that there is a man who is covering something important like who he really is. It is like he is a detective. The unique features that make the image different from modern day is the completely black character, not showing any of his body. It is different to now because it isn't in colour and there is very little dialogue. This photo gives you the feel that you are in the film, the character, actor is kind of doing abut of direct address with the way he is standing and facing. If I was recreating the photo I would use a very dark lighting because this photo is as though there is nothing to show but a lot to hide. The mans facial expression isn't much because you cant really see his face. The costumes that I would use is complete black and a black hat. The actor would be standing still, looking down and a little bit at the bar. The lighting would be a little bit coming from the window, not much at all. This would show a hidden character in this photo which is what I am looking for. The location that would be perfect for this would be anywhere that is completely dark like a corridor or stairs. This is because these locations are the best for lighting. There will not be any props because the man isn't holding very many. The problems that I might face with recreating this photograph is some of the lighting because it is dark, and the bars and fence part would be hard because I am not sure how I can recreate this part of the image. The character would be looking very dull, no smiling.(

6.
T 6. The time period that I think that the photo was taken was in the early 1930's- late 1940's. This is because of the way that the woman is looking and her clothes that she is wearing. It shows that the woman is hiding something that she doesn't want anyone to know about. This is the message that I think is trying to get across to the audience. It is different to modern days because of the dull, dusty colours used. There is no colours which shows the horror behind the scene without dialogue. Also this photo kind of uses a drug whereas now a days there isn't as much drugs used but only for horror films. The problems that I might have with this photo is the fact that the lighting is quite hard on this photo as there is a shadow going right through the woman's face. The make-up that I would use in this photo is black across the eyes and black mascara to show the dark side. Also to recreate this photo I would have the woman / actress wearing a black top to show the deep end of the character, also the actress would be wearing black nail varnish to keep the photo dark and dust like, her hair would be down long but barely noticeable. The location that I would use for this would be on the streets because it is the perfect atmosphere and lighting. The lighting is black and dark on the streets so this photo would be easily recreate able. The actress would not be smiling, she would be pouting/wearing a straight face. (http://41.media.tumblr.com/9442987697cd7d8366e04d7c26121694/tumblr_nb308zbr6f1qjcgypo5_r1_400.jpg)
The The time period that I think the photo is trying to get across is about 2 men who keep missing each other as if they are in some sort of dream, mirror image. I think that the main message that is trying to be conveyed throughout this photo is about these two men who are reflections of each others, and that they are in some sort of dream or nightmare. The unique features of this compared to modern day would be the fact that it is completely situated like it is a dream or nightmare with the black character and the dark black garden. The problems that I would face with recreating this photo would be trying to get the lighting right as the lighting in this photo is hard, aswell as getting the reflection lighting of the two characters. I would recreate this image by having two actors playing each character, one of them would be a black figure, completely shadowed and the other man would be in more of a light on an outside scene like the street or inside college. The location that would be perfect for this photo would be an archway or the street aswell as using a mirror for the reflection.
. 8. The time period of this photo I would say is probably the 1970s-80s towards the war time. This is because it shows a lady (villain) about to fight a man in the background following the lady. The message that I think is being conveyed in this photo is a lady fighting with a man following her. The differences between modern day and back then is the colours and weapons used. Back then there was more drugs, weapons used with shadows and now there is special effects and more horror. The problems that I would have with creating this photo is the smoke, fog lighting. I could do this by missing/skipping this out and to just use simple lighting. The costumes that would be used is a woman wearing a black jacket, black leggings, black shoes and a very dull black face with just black make-up. Her hair would be up or a wig used. The man would be in the background , again black and grey clothing, completely dark, a hat used to indicate the man. The location that I would use for recreating this scene would be a corridor or an archway or alleyway because it gives the dark, creepy feeling and effect. Memory check x1
1) What
time period do you think the photograph was taken? Give reasons for your
answer. I think that the time period that the photograph was taken was around the 1990s possibly the 1980s. This is because of the blurriness in the photo. It kind of looks like the future (futurama) with the tram things crossing over each other.
2) What do you think was the genre/subject? I think that the genre/subject on this photo is to do with a holiday. This is because of the swimming pool with a crowd of people standing/swimming in the water. It gives the feeling that you want to be there-(Ballroom dancing)
3) Are the elements in the shot balanced? In my opinion I don't think that the elements in the shot are balanced. This is because the photo is blurry showing how old it is. I think that the composition in this photo is rule of thirds because you can directly see everything in the photo clearly enough.
4) What message could the photograph be trying to convey? The message that the photograph could be trying to convey is a holiday. It shows a way of relaxing throughout the summer holidays because of the swimming pool. Also the hotel thing in the background shows this also.
5) Do you notice anything striking about the shot? The only thing that I find striking about the shot is that people could have fallen out into the pool. You might have injured yourself from travelling on the transport, the colours are also a bit striking about this photo.
6) Do you think consent was needed from the subjects? I think that consent was not needed from the subjects. This is because it was advertising a holiday. In the photo times you don't particular need permission apart from the more dangerous parts, such as the transport, if some-one decided to jump out.
7) What is the viewpoint? The viewpoint of this photo is probably the transport part. This is because of the people looking through the transport windows. I think that there is a little bit of viewpoint behind the swimming pool near the mushroom thing, its a smurf house, because of people standing near it gives you the feeling of a viewpoint, eye level. There could have been a birds eye level.
8) If you were to produce this shot what would you do differently? If I was to produce this shot I would change the viewpoint of the shot to a birds eye view shot. I would take the shot from the top of a train or a plane or helicopter. I would also have a shot looking down on the swimming pool so you can see the shadows/reflections under the water.

Generic and Non Generic
I have put some pieces of paper into two piles for non generic conventions of Film Noir and generic conventions of Film Noir.
I only had to change a few around of the non and generic conventions because I did quite well. I only got a few wrong because I found some of them quite hard to sort out. This photo is before I got the answers and had to swap a few. I didn't do too badly. I am quite impressed with the result form knowledge. The one which I left in the middle after I got the answers was the voice over one. This was because it fits on both sides for non and generic conventions.

Film Noir research
I have watched a bit of a film noir film called This Gun is for Hire from 1947.
Notes on the film:
. Black and White to show how old it is, dramatic piano playing in the background to describe each scenario in the film. The music is non diagetic because you cant see it. The tempo of the piano music is more of a fast tempo with the odd slow tempo in it. This is because it describes the characters very well if the music has different types of tempos used. With the magician part that was more of a diagetic sound because you can physically see her singing but not the music, aswell as performing Shadow and darkness to show how old the film is and to uncover maybe a secret in the film that hasn't been discovered yet
. A gun was used by a man who looked like a detective. This is because he was covering his top half of his clothes. He looked like a Villain with the gun he kept a very straight, Two murders was used in some of the film showing how secret the man was trying to be, almost like a detective
Generic Conventions used in a Film Noir is murders to show the horror side of the film or scenario, dark, creepy type scenes of lighting to indicate also some horrorness to the film as if someone has something to hide. In the film there was a secret message attached to a letter indicating it had something to do with a spy that was trying to be covered. Shadow is also used to show the audience what the character is feeling or going through without them speaking, this adds horror. A young girl who was sitting on the stairs was sort of friendly. She looked lonely with the fact that she was on her own sitting on the stairs(being kicked out her own house possibly)
In the film, for the parts that I watched the men and women weren't treating other as well as they do now. I think this because in the film they were being mean to each other, picking on each other pretending it was each others fault unless they were married
The title of the film reminds me of a Laurel and Hardy film because of the colours used. The only difference in this title is the fact that book behind the title is sort of a 3D book. This shows that there is definatley some sort of secret detective or secret used in the film.
