I have watched a bit of a film noir film called This Gun is for Hire from 1947.
Notes on the film:
. Black and White to show how old it is, dramatic piano playing in the background to describe each scenario in the film. The music is non diagetic because you cant see it. The tempo of the piano music is more of a fast tempo with the odd slow tempo in it. This is because it describes the characters very well if the music has different types of tempos used. With the magician part that was more of a diagetic sound because you can physically see her singing but not the music, aswell as performing Shadow and darkness to show how old the film is and to uncover maybe a secret in the film that hasn't been discovered yet
. A gun was used by a man who looked like a detective. This is because he was covering his top half of his clothes. He looked like a Villain with the gun he kept a very straight, Two murders was used in some of the film showing how secret the man was trying to be, almost like a detective
Generic Conventions used in a Film Noir is murders to show the horror side of the film or scenario, dark, creepy type scenes of lighting to indicate also some horrorness to the film as if someone has something to hide. In the film there was a secret message attached to a letter indicating it had something to do with a spy that was trying to be covered. Shadow is also used to show the audience what the character is feeling or going through without them speaking, this adds horror. A young girl who was sitting on the stairs was sort of friendly. She looked lonely with the fact that she was on her own sitting on the stairs(being kicked out her own house possibly)
In the film, for the parts that I watched the men and women weren't treating other as well as they do now. I think this because in the film they were being mean to each other, picking on each other pretending it was each others fault unless they were married
The title of the film reminds me of a Laurel and Hardy film because of the colours used. The only difference in this title is the fact that book behind the title is sort of a 3D book. This shows that there is definatley some sort of secret detective or secret used in the film.
